Lords of Old

 WE ARE GATHERED.

LET US SING NOW OF THE LORDS OF OLD, AND HOW, LONG AGO, THEY STIRRED FROM DREAMS OF DEATH TO ONCE MORE WALK THE ANCIENT EARTH.

ALL WE SHALL SPEAK OF HAS COME TO RUIN.

BUT FOR TONIGHT, LET US FORGET THIS DOOM, AND TELL TALES OF WHEN THIS AGE WAS YOUNG

Lords of Old is a competitive GMless game of godhood, ruin, and secret ambition. You and your compatriots will first set yourselves a stage for the coming drama, crafting a world and its divine Lords, then bringing about their ruin and death.

From these ashes, each player will wake one Lord from their death dream, and donning them as a mantle, begin the make the world and its peoples anew. Each Lord has immense creative power within their domain, and must use it cunningly to seek out the completion of a secret goal by crafting Creations in order to accumulate Divinity, and thus, Titles.

The rivalries, alliances, wars and intrigues that follow will shape the course of these new lands until at last, the final Hour strikes at the end of all things, and those who have fulfilled their ambition stand resplendent for one shining moment before all is undone, and creation unravels in the widening gyre.

See here, two realms and their pantheon of rulers, each drawn from a game played by the scribe and their companions:

  1. I get big Silmarillion and Dark Souls vibes from this! Really quite excellent! I imagine it would be a learning process the first couple of games but then become really snappy. I would definitely like to play this sometime!

  2. Great start to the new blog! I said this elsewhere, but I like how, especially in a PbP format, this really lends itself well to generating play reports like a collaborative story writing.

  3. I think social deduction mechanics are an extremely good way to frame tabletop roleplaying, and this does it wonderfully.
